indian mackerel

This is a school of striped (or indian) mackerel "rastrelliger kanagurta" feeding on plankton.

The mackerel are always in school, close to the surface, and swim mouth wide open to filter water and feed on planktonic animals and tiny fish. Their swimming is usually fast and their schools' shapes are as elegant as open mouth mackerels can be expressive.
