Machafushi wreck
This is a medium sized steel wreck lying very close to the house reef of Machafushi island. It is called "Kudhimaa wreck".
It was purposely sunk in 1998 to provide divers visiting the region with a wreck dive. They made a great job of scuttling the wreck as it lies directly on its keel. The wreck has easy access to the cargo holds on both sides. On and around the wreck, you will find a school of batfish, pufferfish, boxfish and large lionfish. One of the interesting things about a new wreck is the competition for space between algae, sponges, sea squirts and coral. Where the wreck is covered with these you will find very little corrosion.
This wreck lies down at a depth of 35m (115 feet). The wreck lenght is 52m (170 feet) for a width between 10 and 15m (33 and 50 feet).
It is the end of the trip at a depth of 35m (115 feet)... Wreck photographs often present a gloomy aspect...
